Bunbong, Ghana is located in a region that has suffered neglect, leading to a lack of development and inadequate infrastructure. Literacy rates are the lowest in the country.
A community of 3,000, Bunbong is the ancestral village of Ghanaian musician Rocky Dawuni. It is rapidly flourishing under the guidance of his brother, Chief Wumbe Dawuni, the first university-educated chief of the village. In 2015, the LTR team joined by architect Jason Orbe-Smith led a series of workshops with the community on sustainable building practices and design that follows the vision of the people of Bunbong.
LTR officially broke ground on the Bunbong Library in August 2016. It is expected to officially open late Spring 2017!
“My vision for the library space is to create an edifice and environment that frees the mind and sows the seeds that would cultivate the mind’s ability to soar.” – Chief Wumbe Dawuni
